Aval Kesari - a simple yet delicious dessert with puffed rice
Ingredients:
- 1 cup puffed rice
- 1/4 cup clarified butter (ghee)
- 1/2 cup granulated sugar
- 1/4 water
- 1 tsp. orange coloring (if desired)
- 1 tsp. powdered cardamom
- 6 almonds broken into small pieces or halves (roast in ghee until brown)
Method:
- Roast aval (puffed rice) in a flat pan or wok with 1/2 a Tbsp. of ghee
- Add water and cook the aval. Should take about 5 minutes
- Add sugar and let it dissolve into the contents
- Add food coloring and ghee
- Mix everything well while stirring so the contents don't stick to pan
- Finally, sprinkle cardamom and mix
