Spicy Jalapeño Poppers


  • 6 Jalapeños
  • 6oz cream cheese, softened
  • 2 oz sharp cheddar cheese, grated
  • 1/4 tsp. onion powder
  • 1/4 tsp. garlic powder
  • 1/4 tsp paprika, plain or smoked
  • 1/2 cup all purpose flour
  • 1 cup plain breakcrumbs
  • Seltzer water to mix batter
  • 3 cups canola oil
  • Salt to taste
  • Black pepper

Prepare filling by mixing onion, garlic, paprika powders, 1 tsp. of ground pepper and salt to taste. Then add the cream cheese and cheddar cheese mix and blend them all in..

Make batter by mixing flour with a tsp. of salt and pepper. Use as much seltzer water as needed to get the mix to a batter consistency..

Pour bread crumbs on to a plate to coat peppers

Seed or unseed jalapeños. Leave the stem. Slit the jalapeño, fill it with the cream cheese and spice mix, dip into batter to cover the pepper completely. Then roll it on the breadcrumbs and fry in medium hot oil for at least a minute per side or until golden brown.

Serve with a spicy sauce or ketchup.
