Lentil 4
Dhal with Sambaar Powder
Pointer 1: This is a great recipe if you don't like the taste of onion, garlic or garam masala.
Ingredients:
- 2 cups lentil (orange or yellow)
- Enough cups of water to cook
- 2 green chillies
- 1/2 Tbsp. sambaar podi (use may curry powder found in grocery stores)
- 1 vine-ripened tomato chopped
- 1 Tbsp. chopped fresh coriander
- 1/2 tsp. asafoetida
- 1 Tbsp. tamarind extract or lemon juice
- 1 Tbsp. olive oil or canola oil
- Salt to taste
Method:
Cook dhal until well done. Sauté in oil, green chillies, sambaar powder and tomatoes. Add to dhal and let it boil for another 5 minutes. Add tamarind or lemon extrat, salt to taste. After one stir, remove from stove. Add chopped coriander right before serving.
Goes with with Indian rotis or rice.
