Wheat Germ Bhurjhi

Pointer 1: Wheat germ can be found in the frozen section at regular grocery stores..


  • 1 pack wheat germ
  • 1 red onion, chopped
  • 3 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1" fresh ginger, minced
  • 2 tomatoes, chopped
  • 2 green chillies, slit lengthwise
  • 2 tsps. cumin powder
  • 3 tsps. coriander powder
  • 2 tsp. turmeric powder
  • 2 tsps. fresh cayanne pepper
  • 1 tsp. garam masala
  • 2 Tbsps. canola or olive oil
  • 1 Tbsp. fresh chopped coriander
  • Salt to taste

Use a wok^ to prepare this dish. Place wok on stove. Add oil, when warm add the onions and green chillies. Sauté onions until translucent. Add garlic and ginger and continue to sauté. Add the spices except for the garam masala, sauté for about 5 minutes.

Add the tomatoes, cook them with the rest of the ingredients in the wok. Finally add the wheat germ and salt. Cook for about 10 minutes on medium heat. About 5 minutes before removing from stove, add the garam masala. Garnish with fresh coriander.

Great with hot rice or chappathis.
