Quinoa Breakfast

A morning breakfast of Quinoa feels great.  It also can help you hold off until lunch time because of the nutritive elements in it.

Pointer 1: Rinse Qunioa thoroughly. You may want to use a strainer and let the water run through for a few seconds.
Pointer 2: Cooking time for quinoa just like rice is about 20 minutes. The proportion of rice to water is 1:2 or even 1:21/2 would be good

Ingredients:

  • 1 cup Quinoa
  • 2 to 2 1/2 cups of water
  • 1 cup butter milk if using buttermilk
  • 1 cup milk of any kind if you choose milk instead of buttermilk
  • Nuts and fruits of your choice

Method:

Cook Quinoa in water like you would cream of wheat.  Since what we find in the stores is in its raw form, it takes about 20 minutes to cook. You can have it one of two ways and both taste good.  Use milk and have it like a porridge.  You may add nuts and fruits of your choice.  Or, cool it down to lukewarm temperature and mix yogurt or buttermilk to it.  For children who are allergic to milk, this is an alternative.  It has a refreshing taste and you will not be sacrificing any nutrition.  In fact, gaining a lot more by mixing yogurt which is equally if not more nutritious than milk.  Try it and let me know.
