An easy, tasty condiment made with yogurt as the base. There are multiple ways to make this. Let me suggest to you one simple recipe to begin with.

Either use home made yogurt or you may buy plain yogurt from the store. Plain yogurt, part yogurt and part buttermilk, or some non-fat sour cream with some buttermilk; they all work great for raita.

Pointer 1: Less tart yogurt make better tasting raita.


  • 2 cups raita
  • 1/2 a medium-sized onion diced
  • 1 tomato
  • 1 Tbsp. coriander
  • 1/2 of a medium-sized cucumber
  • 1 green chilli or
  • 1 tsp. red chilli powder^
  • 1/2 tsp coriander powder^
  • 1/2 tsp. cumin powder^
  • 1 tsp. salt

Mix all the above ingredents together in a serving dish. Leave it in the refrigerator until ready to serve. You may eliminate any of the ingredients that you may not like from the above.
